Pachter: "PS3 wird den GTA IV Krieg gewinnen"

Wie Wedbush Morgan Analyst Michael Pachter der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters mitteilte, wird seiner Meinung nach der GTA IV Krieg zugunsten der PlayStation 3 ausfallen. So soll sich laut seiner Voraussage alleine dieses Jahr die PS3 Version zwei Millionen mal mehr verkaufen als die Xbox 360 Version. Mit dieser Meinung steht er nicht alleine da. . .

BMO Capital markets Analyst Edward Williams geht davon aus, dass viele Verbraucher lediglich auf GTA IV gewartet haben, bevor sie auf den PS3 Zug mitaufspringen werden.

Williams:
"So many people who owned the PS2 went into PlayStation family because of GTA. The release of GTA IV could expedite their decision to upgrade."

Dies sieht natürlich auch Scott Steinberg, Marketing Vizepräsident von Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) so. So ist laut ihm GTA IV eines der Spiele, welches der PlayStation 3 im Jahre 2008 eine massive Umsatzsteigerung beschehren wird. In diese Reihe werden sich laut Steinberg auch Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet sowie Resistance 2 einreihen.

Sollten alle bisherigen Prognosen eintreffen, wird Grand Theft Auto IV mit einem Umsatz von 400 Millionen Dollar in der ersten Woche den weltweit erfolgreichsten Start im Entertainmentbereich hinlegen - zu recht!

The Premier GTA IV Fansite Pre-Launch Party


GTA IV in NYC? Hell yes. In the months leading up to the launch of GTA IV, ten Grand Theft Auto fansite administrators were contacted by Rockstar Games. It was an invitation that GTA fanatics have dreamt about for years – an invitation to come and experience New York City firsthand, compliments of Rockstar.

Those who received the invitation included:

Psy – GTA4.TV
G-Wizz - GTA Warehouse
Zidane and Kodo – GTA Gaming
Chris – The GTA Place
Jordan – Planet Grand Theft Auto
Tank (who later passed his invitation on to Andy), adamcs, illspirit and Jevon – GTANet/GTA4.NET
Part of the deal, however, required that all invitees remain completely silent about the event. Nobody outside of the group was supposed to know about it, and aside from a few relatively obnoxious slipups late in April, the Grand Theft Auto community remained in the dark about the entire thing for quite a while.

Now that the event has come and gone, we'd like to share our experiences with everyone else. Over the next few hours, all sites that attended the meet will be posting their own take on this once-in-a-lifetime event.

A huge thanks to Rockstar Games for being such amazing hosts and giving us an early (and legitimate) hands-on preview of Grand Theft Auto IV.

IGN's Verdict - "One of the best games ever seen"

IGN has given Grand Theft Auto IV a 10/10 - the first such rating to be given in almost ten years. Quite simply, they call it "one of the best games" they have ever seen.

GTA taken to the next level - in a sense of technological progression and also sophistication.
Liberty City is a gem to behold. New York expressed in a true Grand Theft Auto style.
A level of integration between the soundtrack and the dynamics makes this a true "living, breathing city."
The game deserves the highest score IGN can award, because it doesn't fail to push video gaming to another level.
Storyline involves morality choices faced by players, giving way to alternative plot endings.
One of the best integrations of multiplayer in a game, that the reviewer has ever seen.
A 4-minute video review shows some beautiful gameplay footage as well as providing a summary of the full written review. Even if you decide to spare yourself the 7-page read, check out the video review. IGN can barely contain their excitement. We're looking forward to the verdicts the other major outlets will be providing over the weekend.

Seeing as many still haven't had a chance to play the game, I don't want to summarize too much, and let everyone savour the gameplay when they have their chance with it. Suffice to say; much like Grand Theft Auto III represented a paradigm shift in videogaming, GTA IV continues to push the boundaries of what is possible to achieve with a video game.

10 - Presentation - The story is Oscar quality. The use of the phone as a gaming portal is genius. There’s really nothing more that could be asked for from GTA IV.

10 - Graphics - The level of detail is astounding. Liberty City feels alive and lived in. While there are some technical issues, the artistic merits push the score to the max. A true marvel.

10 - Sound - The dialogue makes the story. Without the excellent writing and the stellar voice acting, the story would fail. And the soundtrack kills -- more than 200 songs and almost all are great choices.

10 - Gameplay - The cover and targeting system work great. Blind firing with an RPG is a thing of beauty. Everything works in harmony and not a single one of the missions is bad. The most fun I’ve had in years.

10 - Lasting Appeal - The story will take anywhere from 25-45 hours to complete, depending on your skill level and attention span. There’s plenty more to do once you finish the story, such as excellent multiplayer.

10 - OVERALL 10/10, Masterful

Microsoft working hard to prepare Xbox Live for GTA IV
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News 3 (new) Source: Kotaku As the first truly multiplayer GTA title, what impact GTA IV will have on online gaming services is anyone's guess. Microsoft isn't taking any chances though, and is expecting a big spike in users on Tuesday. Speaking to Kotaku, the company's General Manager of Xbox Live services, Derek Ingalls, had this to say:
"...we are going the extra mile with Grand Theft Auto IV. The biggest step we've taken is to add in more server hardware...We have actually doubled our capacity for concurrent users over the last 2 months"

Kotaku goes on to comment correctly that the PS3's online service is being handled, in part, by Gamespy. They say that this setup will really have nothing to do with Sony, although you'll be using your standard PlayStation Network names in-game.

GTA IV's multiplayer mode supports up to 16 simultaneous players in game types which are detailed on our multiplayer page.



Release date broken by some UK retailers
Grand Theft Auto IV - Australian gamers have now been joined by those from the United Kingdom in the GTA release date rush. Pictures of the game appeared earlier in the week, and pressure from customers has led some independent retailers to succumb and offer the game ahead of its April 29th street date.

Online messageboards are filled with stories of various small stores offering both versions of the game early, with many charging £45 or even £50. More surprisingly, major supermarkets also seem to be in, several images like this one providing forum goers with information on where might be the best place to grab the game ahead of time.

ASDA claims that this was an "isolated incident", while other gamers managed to get the title from Morrisons.

At the time of writing, statistics tracking website MyGamerCard.net listed over 1000 players of the Xbox 360 version so far.



PS3:Grand Theft Auto IV Review-this is the american dream

I won't go so far as to say that GTA IV is the best multiplayer out there, but it's definitely among the best. Having Liberty City in full effect and only seeing occasional instances of slowdown is a real treat. When a few million people load hop online, it's anyone's guess how the game will hold up, but from my experience, playing with 16 people in Free Mode only caused occasional hiccups. Certainly not enough to make me stop playing.

For those curious about SIXAXIS controls, there are in full force in GTA IV. You can guide boats, bikes and cars tilting the controller. This only works well with boats, however, as bikes are far too squirrelly for the clumsy movements of SIXAXIS control. Helicopters are also very tough to control in this fashion -- it's as if Rockstar thought they were making a game about dragons. The mini-games, particularly bowling, also work with your guided movements and handle well. If you want traditional controls, you can turn SIXAXIS off for each individual input -- from the various vehicle types to reloading guns to specific mini-games. It's worth giving SIXAXIS a shot, but most likely you will shut this off.
Closing Comments
Grand Theft Auto III was a revolutionary title, one that inspired a whole new generation of 3D action games. Grand Theft Auto IV is just as big a leap forward, though perhaps in subtler ways, and sets a new benchmark for open-world games. Everything in GTA IV works in harmony. The story would be nothing without the city; the city gains realism from the physics engine; the physics compliment the improved AI; the AI would make no sense without the new cover system. And on and on. There is no one major weak aspect.

A "10" is not a score we give out very often. In fact, the last time we gave a 10 to a console game was Soul Calibur in 1999. A 10 doesn't mean a game is perfect -- it means a game is pushing boundaries, expanding a genre, and doing many things to a level so far above and beyond its competitors that they overshadows any flaws. Certainly, GTA IV has some issues, the most noticeable being the occasional flaw in the cover system, but there are many more pieces of GTA IV that are better than anything I've seen from a game in the past decade. We don't give 10s often -- just to games that merit the score.

It's not very often that a game comes along that turned out to be pretty much exactly what I expected, and yet also managed to wow me practically every second. Grand Theft Auto IV is a GTA game through and through, but its execution is so epic and fantastic that you can't help but be in awe at the fact that it has come together as well as it has. Rockstar North has really outdone itself and has issued proof that it is not only the founding father of open world games, but also the undisputed king of the genre.
GTA IV manages to break every negative stigma from past games in the franchise while keeping the series' core gameplay intact, albeit much more in-depth than ever before. The new aiming and cover mechanics, while not perfect, do a fantastic job of completely changing the way combat works while keeping it at least as intense as we'd seen in past titles. Mission progression is paced incredibly well, and side things like managing relationships directly impact your game.

Liberty City is simultaneously the most realistic and immersive location we've seen in a game like this. The amount of detail that you'll find here is astounding, not only visually but with regards to the things pedestrians and whatnot will do. Watching someone yank out a newspaper and hold it over their head while running for cover when it begins to rain is just one example of the personality and small touches of realism that you'll see everywhere.

But while the mechanics, side missions and other core gameplay elements are all fantastic, it's the story and overall presentation that elevates GTA IV to heights very rarely seen in gaming. Rockstar North has once again done an amazing job of walking the fine line between humor and seriousness with characters that you're immediately able to connect to. They're almost all bad people, to be sure, but each of them has character weaknesses and vulnerabilities that make them real. Characters have reasons for doing what they do, and it's apparent that they also have morals and inner demons as well. The cast plays perfectly into a fascinating story that is not only is easily the best of the franchise, but one of the best you'll find in gaming anytime soon.

I could go on and on about why Grand Theft Auto IV is one of the best games we've ever seen and why even folks who are easily offended should play it, but that would be pointless. The only thing you need to know is that you have to play this game. Period.

This is the American dream.

US, April 25, 2008 - Criminals are an ugly, cowardly lot more worthy of pity and disdain than admiration. This is what you'll learn playing through the single-player campaign in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV. The series cheered (and criticized) for glorifying violence has taken an unexpected turn: it's gone legit. Oh sure, you'll still blow up cop cars, run down innocent civilians, bang hookers, assist drug dealers and lowlifes and do many, many other bad deeds, but at a cost to main character Niko Bellic's very soul. GTA IV gives us characters and a world with a level of depth previously unseen in gaming and elevates its story from a mere shoot-em-up to an Oscar-caliber drama. Every facet of Rockstar's new masterpiece is worthy of applause. Without question, Grand Theft Auto IV is the best game since Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

You play as Niko Bellic, an Eastern European attempting to escape his past and the horrors of the Bosnian war. He arrives in Liberty City to experience the American dream, only to discover his cousin, Roman, may have fibbed a bit in his tales of success. Starting from nothing, Niko makes a living as a killer and enforcer, a bad-ass foreigner who appears to have no morals. The longer we stay with Niko, the more we see that there is a broken human being inside, one who would give anything to escape the person he once was.

Don't worry, GTA's famed over-the-top action and tongue-in-cheek humor are intact, but there is a new level of sophistication in the characters and the game world that raises the story above the norm. As Niko becomes mired in the death throes of American organized crime, he begins to become more self-aware. Niko's struggles with his ruthless nature never inhibit the gameplay, but instead enhance the emotional gravity of a brilliant storyline. The more absurd the action becomes, the greater we feel the very real pathos of Niko Bellic.

Much of the credit goes to the artists at Rockstar North who created as believable a city as possible. Liberty City is inspired by New York, but not beholden to it. While there are many parallels, Liberty exists in its own universe and rightfully so. Many open-world games have cities that feel as if they existed only from the moment you first turned on your console, but Liberty City looks lived in. It's an old city and each block has its own vibe and its own history.

Drive around Liberty City and you'll be able to identify each individual block. Though Liberty is filled with brownstones and a myriad of similar brick buildings, you can tell one from the other, just as you can in New York. Go to an affluent neighborhood and the street is likely to be newly paved, the pedestrians better dressed, the cops more plentiful. But head to Dukes or Bohan and you'll find streets nearly stripped of asphalt, homeless people wandering about aimlessly and criminals preying on the weak.

Niko is fresh off the boat.Watch the people and you'll witness some amazing things. At one point, I saw a woman stopped at a light, looking in the rearview mirror right before she was rear-ended by a man ogling a girl on the street. The man got out of his car and went to the woman, checking to see if she was okay. This had nothing to do with Niko or a single action I took. These were the citizens of Liberty City going about their day. And it was just one moment in a day full of incidents.

Hang in one area of the city long enough and you'll see how traffic and pedestrian flow changes as the day progresses. When it rains, people bring out umbrellas or shield themselves with a newspaper and run for an awning. Cops chase petty thieves unaware that walking down the street is Niko Bellic, cold-blooded killer. There's a perfect balance of mumbling doomsayers to remind you that the reason this city never sleeps is because it's full of nut jobs. People go about their day, only altering course when Niko inserts himself into their lives with his crappy driving or excellent marksmanship.

Selbst an den seriösen und renomierten Medien in Deutschland geht GTA IV nicht vorbei. Wer die Süddeutsche Zeitung aboniert oder gekauft hat konnte sich heute morgen beim Frühstück einen Artikel über GTA IV durchlesen.

Die Freiheit, durch fremde Welten zu surfen
Das Videospiel "Grand Theft Auto IV" gilt als Sensation, weil es die Grenzen seines Genres überwindet

In dem Artikel wurde noch einmal bestätigt, dass eine Durchquerung der Stadt mit Taxi, Motorrad oder Speedbooten 45 Minuten dauert.

Allerdings ist es kein reiner Lobartikel, wie es für die Süddeutsche Zeitung auch nicht üblich wäre, sondern es spiegelt sich auch Kritik in ihm wieder.

Originalversionen schon verkauft26.04.2008
Eine Filiale der britischen Supermarktkette Asda hat versehentlich schon einige Exemplare des heiß erwarteten „GTA IV“ verkauft. Laut dem Unternehmen hätten alle Shops Anweisungen erhalten, kein Spiel vor dem offiziellen Release am 29. April zu verkaufen. Von Seiten Take-Twos gab es ein entsprechendes Embargo, das derweil auch für Online-Händler gilt.

PC-Version immer unwahrscheinlicher?

Am 29. April wird eines der erfolgreichsten Spiele fortgesetzt, welches bislang jedoch nur für die beiden Konsolen XBOX360 und PS3 erscheinen wird. Die Rede ist vom Spiel des Jahres Grand Theft Auto 4. Auch wenn PC Spieler bisher immer eine Umsetzung bekommen haben, schwinden nun einige Hoffnungen.

Rockstar habe sich angeblich gegenüber dem Magazin whatifgaming.com zu einer PC Umsetzung geäußert. Demnach halten es die Entwickler für äußerst fragwürdig, dass der neueste Ableger auch für den PC erscheinen wird, da es dafür derzeit keine Pläne gibt.

Immerhin ist auf Youtube ein Video aufgetaucht, welches von einem Besucher der offiziellen Take 2 Website aufgezeichnet wurde. Dies zeigt einen ausversehen veröffentlichten Platzhalter der PC Version.

The Federal Trade Comissoin (FTC), US-Kartellamt, stimmt der geplanten Übernahme von Take-Two durch EA nicht zu, ohne Einsicht in alle Akten zu bekommen und die Mitarbeiter der involvierten Parteien und der Konkurrenz hinsichtlich möglicher Konsequenzen des Zusammenschlusses der beiden Publisher auszufragen. So könnte der Plan des Marktführers durch den 'second Request' um Monate hinauszögern.

Nach der Übernahme ist die absolute Marktführung von EA, vor allem im Sportgenre abzusehen. Zu diesem Schluss kam auch FCT und somit wird die geplante Fusion nur dann genehmigt, wenn seitens der EA die Auflagen zum Abtritt gehalterner Lizenzen und Entwicklerteams an Take-Two eingehalten werden.

Jedoch versucht man keines Wegs EA an ihrem Vorhaben zu hindern. Der Publisher lässt in einer Notiz an die US-Börsenaufsicht verlauten, dass das Bundeskartellamt keine Bedenken hinsichtlich der Fusion hat. wenn es dazu kommen sollte, steht es EA frei die geplanten Transaktionen umzusetzen.

You may already have seen these online or in your local game store, but if you're curious, these images which I've compiled from various retailers show exactly what the boxart for both versions of the PS3 and Xbox 360 format games will look like:

Of note is the fact that the standard edition boxart features embossed lettering on both platforms. It's somewhat reflective too. The contents of the special edition are squeezed into the lock box, which is then covered with these colorful plastic outer boxes. You get the full standard edition inside the special edition box, including the embossed lettering.

Viel zu oft mussten wir euch leider berichten, dass die PS3 Version eines Multiplattform-Titel meist die grafisch schlechtere Fassung war. Beim vierten Teil der GTA Serie hat sich das Blatt jedoch mal gewendet. Die folgenden Infos stammen aus der offiziellen Review von IGN:

-Während die Framerate, sowie die Texturen vergleichbar sind bietet die PS3 Fassung deutlich weniger Pop-Ups.

-Auf der XBox360 wirken die Farben etwas stärker. Das bessere Anti-liasing lässt das PS3 Bild jedoch sauberer wirken.

-Auch die In-Game Ladezeiten der PS3 Version sind dank der Festplatte etwas kürzer.

Neues GTA IV Theme bei Xbox Live

Heute brachte Rockstar Games auf dem Xbox Live Marktplatz ein neues GTA IV Theme raus. Insgesamt kostet der Spaß 100 MS Points, und dort sollen unter anderem Niko, Lola und Mikhail Faustin dabei sein.

Im neuen GTA Game wird es keine Flugzeuge geben, weil bei GTA San Andreas einige Jugendliche mit dem Flugzeug absichtilich in Hochhäuser geflogen sind und den 11. September 2001 nachgespielt haben. Jedoch wird es Hubschrauber weiterhin geben.

Xbox Live ist vorbereitet auf GTA IV

Welche Version ist besser?


Die ersten Redaktionen veröffentlichen Vergleiche zwischen der PlayStation 3 und Xbox 360 Version von Grand Theft Auto IV. Während man bei Planet GTA einen Vergleich, der deutlich gegen die Xbox 360 Version wettert, durch einen neutraleren Text ersetzt hat, bleibt bei IGN der Vergleich trotz vieler Fanboy Kommentaren bestehen. Dort findet man zwar beide Versionen hervorragend, aber die PlayStation 3 Version soll einen Hauch besser sein. Texturen und Framerate sind vergleichbar, bei der PlayStation 3 Version poppen weniger Grafiken hinein, die Xbox 360 Version ist reicher an Farbe, die PlayStation 3 hat hingegen das besser Anti-Aliasing. Den Ausschlag gibt aber am Ende die Ladezeit. Dank dem Cachen auf der Festplatte lädt die PlayStation 3 Version deutlich schneller. Xbox 360 Besitzer sollen aber nicht traurig sein, denn die Ladezeiten sind selten über 30 Sekunden.

Grand Theft Auto IV / GTA IV / EGM / PlayStation 3
In der neuesten Ausgabe der EGM (Eletronic Gaming Monthly) ist ein Review von Grand Theft Auto IV zu lesen. Es war wirklich nichts anders zu erwarten gewesen, auch EGM gibt GTA IV Bestnoten (A+ A+ A). Natürlich äußerte man sich auch zur PS3 vs. Xbox 360 Kontroverse und welche Version man sich denn nun zulegen solle. So schreibt EGM der Xbox 360 den Exklusivcontent zugute, dafür sehe die PS3 Version "lebhafter und schärfer" aus.

Der Gerüchteteil beinhaltet auch einiges Interessantes. . .

Neues zur PC Version


Rockstar habe sich angeblich gegenüber dem Magazin whatifgaming.com zu einer PC Umsetzung geäußert. Demnach halten es die Entwickler für äußerst fragwürdig, dass der neueste Ableger auch für den PC erscheinen wird, da es dafür derzeit keine Pläne gibt.

Immerhin ist auf Youtube ein Video aufgetaucht, welches von einem Besucher der offiziellen Take 2 Website aufgezeichnet wurde.

Dies zeigt einen ausversehen veröffentlichten Platzhalter der PC Version.

Letztlich bleib wieder nur auf eine offizielles Staitment zu warten, denn vor längerer Zeit wurde sich bereits darüber gefreut, dass sich Xbox 360 Spiele ja so leicht auf PC portieren lassen.

GTA IV Trailer 5(UPDATE TELEVISIONSPOT)

GameSpot have posted a new "official" trailer of Grand Theft Auto IV, making this the fifth (and no doubt final) trailer before the game is released on Tuesday. It contains some old scenes from previous trailers in addition to some new ones aswell. Originally it was assumed there would only be four trailers, so this comes as quite a surprise.

Neues Grand Theft Auto IV Gameplay Movie
Wer es wie ich nicht mehr bis Dienstag aushalten kann, muss sich solange andersweitig mit GTA IV beschäftigen. Wie gut, dass es in dieser Hinsicht viele Videos gibt, bei denen man zumindest anderen zusehen kann, wie sie GTA IV zocken. So auch dieses neue Video. . .
