PS3 AVI Transcoding On The Fly

If you've got a PC full of AVI's, just waiting for the right application to appear that will allow you to play them in all there glory on your living room TV, you're in luck. It appears that with the recent 1.80FW update and a copy of Nero Home or Nero V7.0 you to can now enjoy all your videos as of today.

Here are some quick instructions:

Turn your PS3 on and login, and leave it on your XMB

Run a file in Nero Showtime to unblock the firewall that pops up and ALLOW.
Run Nero MediaHome
On the left are a set of Icons.

Heres a quick setup:

SHARED DIRECTORIES > Click ADD SHARE and browse to a single shared directory for now, as it takes time to add the details, so dont go adding gazillions of media files for now.

OPTIONS: I left them at default for now, but they are self explanatory. Automatically start media home when pc is switched on is a good one to tick up, but leave it off for now till you get it going.

NETWORK: Click the box for your ethernet card on your PC. Leave port number and network name at default for now

DEVICES: Click UPnP/1.0 line and click ALLOW ACCESS box

TRANSCODING: Leave on auto detect as it will talk to the ps3 and see what it can and cant play and come up with a solutionafter a few seconds.

TV: Set up your tv card here

STATUS: Click this ICON and you will be able to see whats going on

then click START SERVER at the bottom, and you wait a few moments. Go back to PS3 and it should show the Nero Media Home Icon. Browse as normal for your video files.

At first if you have loads of files in your shared directories it can casue the ps3 playback to come back out to the XMB. Just give Media Home some time to update the directory listings, then it will be silky smooth.

Ive tested this n a decent PC for SD avi files only so far, and they work fine. You might have issues if you have an old pc, as the trancoding can take up resources.

some tips:
Only add one or two files max into a folder, as nero can take a while to index large amounts of files. You can also turn off the server and go to TOOLS - NERO SCOUT - INDEXING - FOLDERS and select the folders you want there. Then go back to the INDEXING tab and click INDEX NOW - this may take a while to do, if you have huge mounts of files, so as before just to get it working. When its done go to SHARED DIRECTORIES ICON in nero media home and select SHARE ALL CONTENT INDEXED BY NERO SCOUT

das ist super. trotzdem muss man die avi file vorher umwandeln. oder besser gesagt: nero tut es....
oder habe ich da was falsches verstanden????

naja das wird aber alles gestreamt leider : (( leiber soll es endlichmöglich sein direkt avis/divx ... auf ps3 kopieren und abspielen . Den das umwandeln in mp4 dauert a ne zeit und B ist die datei danach auch bischen größer...

Ob es flüssig läuft ist dann denke Rechnerabhängig.

Hab es leider nicht probiert, aber denke das funtzt recht gut und man muss nicht mehr dieses lästige umwndeln machen.

ein gut beschriebenes deutsches "How to" gibt es hier. in diesem wird gezeigt wie man mittels Nero MediaHome ein mediencenter erstellt welches auch AVIs abspielen kann.

Na is ja klasse... habs auch ma ausprobiert und meine ps findet den nero media server auch nur kann ich keine avis abspielen weil der punkt wo ich beim server die ps3 erlauben kann fehlt... -.-
Liegt aber denk ich ma daran dass ich version 7.0.0.0 hab und nich wie angegeben 7.9.6.0! naja werds jetzt ma damit probieren!

Also, stellt euch vor ihr seid irgendwo am ***** der Welt mit eurer PSP und habt WLAN (Naja, dann kanns ja soweit ned sein) und wollt nen Film schauen! Ihrt schaltet euch auf dioe PS3 drauf und sagt per Meidiaconnect das ihr das File vom PC anschauen wollt! Der PC wandelt das Video für doe PS3 um und die PS3 dann wandelt es wiederum für die PSP um ^^. Das is ma krank ^^

Habe es getestet und es funktioniert!

Naja wie gesagt das ist extrem Rechenleistung abhängig.
Man muss bedenken hier wird nicht nur Trascodiert sondern die Daten auch noch übers Netzgeschickt und Nero frist auch einiges an Rechenleistung.

Denke mal ich brauch es mit meinen Lapitopi nicht zu probieren

vielleicht kann ja mal jemand es mit nen aktuellen Dualcore probieren und schreiben ob es flüssig läuft.

ALLES ALLES ALLES geht was der "Nero Player" kann und Nero Home transkodiert es auf die PS3...geile Sache !
Dieses twonky gedöns kannst du getrost in die Tonne ziehen

Habs jetzt nochmal mit der neusten Nero Version probiert und er findet auch meinen PC und die PS is auch zugelassen und alles aber iwie findet der kein dateien in den ordnern obwohl ich als zielordner schon einen mit avis angegeben hat... woran könnte das liegen das er halt trotzdem keine files findet???

fehlt vllt der avi codec oder is der standartmäßig dabei? oder liegt evtl an der windows firewall?
